His clinical and research activity is especially focused on gynaecological tumours and sarcomas. His areas of expertise are ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, and other gynaecological tumours, as well as soft tissue sarcomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs). He currently works as a coordinator and specialist at the Initia Integrative Cancer Centre. Dr. Andrés Poveda Velasco, born in Valencia, is a specialist in Medical Oncology and an expert in gynaecological tumours and sarcomas, with a special focus on ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and cervical cancer. He has recently been featured as one of the most highly valued Spanish physicians by the doctors themselves in the Top Doctors 2018 list.

He is actively involved in clinical trials, particularly those concerning gynaecological tumours and sarcomas. He frequently works with several national and international cooperative research groups (GEICO, STSB-EORTC, GCIG, etc.) and is the principal investigator in several research protocols.

He is a founding member and former chairman (until 2013) of the Spanish Gynaecological Cancer Research Group (GEICO, Grupo Español de Investigación en Cáncer de Ovario). He is also a founding member of the Spanish Sarcoma Research Group (GEIS, Grupo Español de Investigación en Sarcomas) and forms part of the Executive Committee of both groups. Moreover, he is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Gynaecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG), having served as its Executive Chairman from November 2016 to November 2018. He has actively participated in the global consensuses on Ovarian Cancer of 2004, 2010, and 2015, being the co-author of its publications.

He has served as a Professor of Medical Oncology in several postgraduate courses and as a medical consultant in different scientific events. He has developed, established, and co-chaired the International Symposium on Advanced Ovarian Cancer: Optimal Therapy', a forum that brings together the world's leading experts in this speciality and has been held in Valencia every two years since October 1996. His research work is published in full in the International Journal of Gynaecological Cancer and Annals of Oncology.

He is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals and the author of over 80 publications mostly focusing on gynaecological tumours and sarcomas.

He is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), as well as a member and former chairman (2010-2014) of the group of professors of gynaecological cancer of the latter. He served as chairman of the scientific committee on gynaecological cancer at the ESMO 2014 symposium.
